What TikTok actually allows
Worth knowing before you fall in love with something that will be rejected. A handle can be up to 24 characters and may contain only letters, numbers, underscores and full stops. No spaces, no dashes, no accents, no emoji, and it cannot end with a full stop. Every suggestion here already respects that.
You can change it, but only once every 30 days, so it is worth getting right rather than iterating in public.
What makes a handle work
- Say it out loud. If someone hears your name in a video and cannot spell it back, they will not find you. That rules out most creative spellings.
- Keep it short. Long handles get truncated in comments and are harder to type. Under fifteen characters is a good ceiling.
- Say what you do, if you can. A handle with your subject in it tells someone whether to follow before they have watched anything.
- Match your other platforms. The same handle everywhere is worth more than a slightly nicer one here.
Avoid stacked numbers and underscores. They read as a fallback after the good name was taken, which is exactly what they are.

Do you check whether the name is free?
No, and any tool claiming to on this page would be guessing. Checking availability means asking TikTok about each name, which we do not do here. Paste the one you like into the TikTok app: it tells you immediately.
How often can I change my TikTok username?
Once every 30 days. After a change you are locked for a month, which is why it is worth spending ten minutes on the choice rather than switching repeatedly.
Can I use emoji or symbols?
Not in the handle. Letters, numbers, underscores and full stops only. The display name is a different field and does accept them, and the font generator is for that.
Is the name I want gone forever if it is taken?
Usually. TikTok does release handles from long-inactive accounts occasionally, but there is no queue to join and no way to claim one. Assume taken means taken.
